Subject: Conway Locomotive's Mr Conway contact, or Como Roundhouse contact

Anyone know either how to contact Mr. Conway and/or a good contact for whom ever is working their at Como?

Now that Rudy has passed the Como Roundhouse email is not functioning, as Rudy was the only way to contact Mr. Conway for years.

I need to speak to Mr. Conway, as I have a question about someone that he worked with long ago, so I have to talk to him personally.

I understand Dave Conway is no longer in the locomotive business.
Many of Dave's and Rudy's castings as well as many others are available through Ridgeway Roundhouse
The website is pretty new, but the "contact us" does have a e-mail to use to contact the owner.

Men this is a discussion that is still in progress on the Home Machinist website, you all should chime in so we all know what the others have in the way of drawing sets.

You all will want to be a member with the above site anyway, so join up if you have not already.

Subject: New Pics of CLL#4

Hi,
I uploaded 2 pics of our new hand brake from a 1949 Chevy truck we modified to use on our Shay. We are changing the steam brakes to air brakes and needed a new hand brake and air valve and a place to mount them.

Hello all,

today, I've spend some hours by best summer-weather out in the backyard and played with my 2"-scale stuff... Diana was under steam for more than 3 hours and I had a lot of fun.

Here are some photos and a movieclip (scroll down).

Have fun and I hope you'll enjoy, Gerd

Hello Gerd,

wonderful pictures.

I really like the idea to expand the possible trackage by using public ground like the sidewalk of the street ;-)

Greetings

Ok folks what is up with Railroad Supply?
Does anyone know?
I just got a charge on my CC from them which I dont know about and called the number listed on there web site. What I got was some mobile repair service and another number to call if I needed help which I did. The person that answered was an, well lets just say not very nice or helpful, I hope that the rest of the people on the east coast are not of the same personality. That person said they were out of business so pack sand but he would take my number and have Mike call me back, when who knows as that was the end of the conversation.
Thanks for anyones help as they were very nice people to deal with very fair and prompt with there service and nice on the phone.

Subject: Mounting RMI Couplers

I recently purchased several of Roll Models 2.5" couplers. How do these mount?

I'm fairly new to live steam and the couplers I've used to date use a vertical pin through the shank. These couplers have a horizontal shaft with 2 springs and a nut extending from the shank. I can't envision using them on a tubular steel frame...

I got my RMI 2.5 inch gauge couplers without the horizontal hole and ground down to the needed thickness and put in a vertical hole for a vertical bolt.
A mechanical engineer friend of mine just got some with the horizontal hole and he plans to install a threaded stud all the way and somehow silver solder in place, then drill the vertical hole.
He will have to machine the thickness to fit his housing (also a rectangular tube).
RMI puts these in 1.5 by 3 inch rectangular tubing.
However, my RMI equipment comes from before these couplers existed by a month or two and has a housing that is similar to 1 by 3 inch rectangular steel tubing.
Also, I had to grind the top part of the shaft off to get the coupler to mount at 5.4inches center line. A centered coupler would have been about .2 inches lower.
All my rolling stock (not RMI) has the rectangular tubing at the correct height for mounting these RMI couplers centered vertically in the tubing.
So, watch the height of what you are mounting.

Ok folks here is the real deal on them. Yes they are alive and very well, t seems that Mike had some fellow employee answer the phone who is not a nice person, Mike has another job other than RR supply. This person was not a nice fellow and not and employee of RR Supply. He is the one that told me that they were not in business which was not true. Mike called me later in the day and also I called Rolland's wife who also confirmed the same that they were still there as usual.
In this day and age of identity thefts one is quick to act on info that you receive, I had a charge from them that was one I had forgot about so when I heard they were out of business and the fellow that answered was so rude that is why I emailed asking about there well being.
They are still the same to deal with very good quick service and excelent products, oh yes and very nice to talk to about how the day is going on there side of the US also. So lets railroad and have fun again, don't hesitate to do business with them either. Boyd Butler way up in the great northwest.

Subject: RMI 2-1/2 scale Coupler

What is the size of the RMI coupler?
We use a auto coupler of of own manufacture down here that is a bit oversize for narrow gauge use so I am always looking for alternatives. Is the RMI close to scale for a 3/4 size narrow gauge one?
We have patterns for ours but it is a bit large. Works OK.
Knuckle does stay open and it needs a kick to close once the pin has been pulled. I was following the discussion on the drilling for mounting. We drill a one inch dia hole, push in a short piece of hydraulic hose then push a short piece of 1/2 inch steel thin walled tube into the ID of the hydraulic tube.
The mounting bolt goes through the stell tube with the whole thing providing a bit of draft gear effect. Crude butworks. I have a very nice Conway coupler casting for the front of my 2-8-0, but it is smaller than ours.
