Subject: DRGW K-27 453

List,

Can anyone point me in the direction of information on K-27 453? I am interested in information on the tender:

Were the rear corners square like 464?
When was the doghouse added and are there prints of the doghouse?

Thanks,
C. Wilkes

Pick up "Mudhens" by O'berry
It had a tender with square rear corners in 1942.
The doghouse was on in 1949, but I don't recall any specifics as to when the ICC required them.

I currently am building a 2.5" model of the 453 and use O berry's book for adding dedtails and there was an article written by Allen Brewster for the Model Railroader in March 1973. The title was "D&RG's k-27: part 1 and covered the original version. A follow up, I believe in April, covered the rebuilds from the Vauclain compound covered in part 1. Both articles are complete with several pix of dubious help, but the real deal is the dimensional data.

Subject: F7

Hi all,

I was chatting with someone (CRS Again) at the last TM triennial about drawings they had for an F7 that they wanted to sell or trade. I have found someone looking for the same but now can't remember who I was chatting with. If you were or know of that person could you have them contact me and I will pass on contact information.

Thanks and kind regards

Subject: Railroad Supply Questions

I have an RRSC catalog (12th edition) from a few years ago. I went to the website, and there are some links to sections, prices, etc., but the links for the CP-173 doesn't seem to match with the parts/sections listed in the catalog. My work schedule is prohibiting me from calling them right now.
Anyone have any price updates?
If you'd rather email them, send to gmharris46@aol.com.

Thanks so much,
Hugh

Subject: News from the lost valley railroad

Hello,

I have some news from my Lost Valley Railroad.
Last weekend, I've finished my new passenger car and one of two flatcars. Both are running on trucks and each approx 4.25' long

I also redesigned my toolcar and put the tools and equipment on top of another car.

Some weeks ago, I've painted and lettered my coalcars.

And I've ordered 12 new wheelsets, to build more trucks.

Finaly, I was for a visit at one of my favorite livesteam association, the DBC Rhein-Main near Frankfurt/Main.
I was there with my new cars for testruns and they run great.

The train was about 31' long. I've made a small movieclip, hosted at youtube (see link below).

(As a special service, you can download the flash-video here).

Please take also a look to my homepage at

Subject: UP 3985 Rivet size

Hi all,

Does anybody know what size the Rivet heads are on the cab and tender of 3985?

Currently building an overscale version so I can't use the normal 71/4 - 1/2 standard size.

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

Gerd, Nice job on those cars. I also liked the 'driver-less' video.
Very cool. Russ

Subject: Finished my Climax locomotive

I finally finished my large scale Climax (2.5" scale and 7.5" gauge) after four months of work. Weighs ~ 400 lbs and is powered by two optima 12 volt deep cycle batteries and a 4QD controller (24 volts and 150 amps).

Here is a passenger car I built.

I am going to build two riding cars next.

The equipment looks good. I really like the tool car, it appears to be very functional.
Good work.

To All:

I have just posted pixs from the Illinois Live Steamers Memorial Day Meet ay 28th. There was a good sized crowd that attended with plenty of locos on hand. The friends and families that attended enjoyed the nice day and picnics abounded.

Check out these pixs and more at "Live Steaming In The Pacific Northwest"

Enjoy!
