Subject: Replacement engine for the Clishay

Do any of you remember what issue of Live Steam / Modeltec, the engine that was published to replace the original engine for the "Clishay", is located?

Thank You,

Subject: Plymouth at 2007 National Narrow Gauge Convention

I just saw some photos of a terrific looking Plymouth (looks to be 2-1/2")

http://www.flickr.com/photos/railwayphotog/collections/72157601823887576

that was displayed at the 2007 National Narrow Gauge Convention. I didn't see a comment associated with the photo, does anyone know about this locomotive?
John

P.S. thanks to the photographer for taking the time to post all of these great photos for the benefit of us who couldn't make it out to Portland.

Hi I had a long chat with the builder and it was completely scratch built from scetches.
The power system was a golf cart motor with chain drive.
It was really well built and weighed in at 350lbs.
The louvres on the hood were custom cut as were all the metal details custom done with lots of jigs.
It was a real pleasure to see and the builder is a carpenter by profession.

That is some real craftsmanship and detail work on the Plymouth model.
Beautiful!

I dojn't have the issue #s or dates in front of me, but the engine was called "Bertha" and was by Ed Warren. I built a version of it a few years ago. IIRC it was designed as a 2" x 2" double acting twin. Likely to be a steam hog. I cut the bore to 1.5". I'll look up the issues when I get home.

Thanks Bob,
While looking for something else, I found the article, it's June-July 2000 issue in Modeltec. Since you've completed "Bertha", do you thinks it's a viable replacement for the original CLishay engine?

Thanks'

Subject: Alan Shifley's Mini Meet Pixs

To All:

Last Friday I took Amtrak from Seattle to Albany Oregon. My friend Roy Anderson picked me up Friday evening so we could attend Alan Shifley's Mini Meet in Philomath, OR. On Saturday we headed over to Alan's really neat track and ran trains all day. A nice sized group showed up with a total of Ten locomotives on the track. A special thanks to Carol & Alan Shifley for sharing their superb track with us all!

Pixs from this event are presently posted on "Live Steaming In The Pacific Northwest"

ENJOY!

Subject: Vancouver Island Model Engineers Track Extension Grand Opening Pixs

Saturday September 15, 2007

The Vancouver Island Model Engineers Held The Grand Opening Of Their Track Extension.

The Festivities Began At 10:00 Hrs With Town Crier Al Witcombe Hailing "Hear Yea, Hear Yea" & Ringing A Bell As He Crossed Memorial Bridge In Traditional Attire. He Then Read A Proclamation Describing The Opening Of The New Track Extension. Announcements Followed There After With The First Train Breaking Through The Ribbon. A Train Parade Followed With All The Locomotives On Hand. The Weather Was Overcast But Mild With No Rain.

This Allowed All Those Present From Vancouver Island, The B.C. Main Land, Washington & Oregon To Have A Great Time Together. And There Was No Lack Of The Locals In Attendance To Ride The New Line! There Is Only One Word That Truly Describes The VIME Track & That Is "Incredible"! The Club Has Pulled Together Great Planning & Skills To Create A Truly Incredible Track. British Columbia Now Has Two Premiere Tracks, VIME & IBLS 2000 Host BCSME. I am Extremely Pleased To Have Attended The Meet & Ran Trains On This Incredible New Track!

If You Are In The Area, Make Plans To Visit The VIME Track.....You Won't Regret It!

Just a test email, I have discovered that for some reason I can't send to some of my groups, but can see incoming posts. This is just a test post, please don't reply.

PS, my backyard railway is going well, we ran our SR&RL 24 for about 5 hours yesterday, great fun. It's just a bit large at around 1/3 scale for our little 1000' line at home. Hauling three passenger cars and a caboose doesn't stress it at all, we're looking forward to the big meet in Auckland (New Zealand) in January 2008. That should give it some real work to do!

Grant,

Thanks for the tease. Have you any pictures to look at? I hope to have a #24 also in a year or so. Mine is to 3 3/4 scale.
