And my inspiration too. My dream is to build an empire like the SR&CL Rly some day here in Germany in 2" scale for my rolling stock. But actually, I've no property to do this, so it will be a dream for the next decades.

But it's amazing to see the SR&CL Rly growing on there website. For those how didn't know, there's a video of this railroad on YouTube =>

I had a very similar one on the riding mower I used for my 0-4-0 gas switcher. It had a snap ring that popped out of it's grove. This let one of the bevel gears move out and not engage. Easily fixed and it has worked well.

What is wrong with the one you have?

Chick,

Too many years left sitting outside. I found it in a junk yard and when taken apart there is nothing worth keeping. The yard owner of thirty years claimed never to have seen it before.

Dennis, let me look in my old shed, I may have one. It is simular to the ones that Cannonball used in thier Lil'gasser locos. I had a bunch of them given to me from a lawn mower repair center.

Subject: Civil Engineering for Outdoor Railroads Volume 2 Bridges

Hi,

I just finished comb binding the first copy of "Civil Engineering for Outdoor Railroads Volume 2 - Bridges."

As for Volume 2 the list is $32.49. This includes a very complex set of programs on CD to analyze structures.

Since eBay is now charging 8.75% for its Final Value Fee, I will not initially list this volume for sale on eBay.

By the end of the week (May 15th), I plan to have my store web site listing CEv2. I will be accepting Paypal only on the store web site until I have all the CDs updated and available. I will consider adding money orders at that time.

I currently have several small topics scheduled and completed for Volume 3. I have several more topics that I feel need to be discussed but have not started writing about. I am currently considering Volume 3 to be more like Volume 1 - touching on several different topics. Volume 4 will probably be a "For Dummies" type book and may even be available on DVD.

Volume 5 might be the first of the series where I will edit other author's articles. Several live steamers have asked me to cover track work and signals even though these topics are not really Civil Engineering. The valid reasoning is that they want one source for all live steam information.

If you have any topics (CE or not) to suggest, please feel free to let me know.

This book will not be available from anyone but myself since I am the publisher as well as the author. Large orders of books may take a while. I think I can print, bind, and check about 4-5 books per day assuming I do not run out of ink .

Thanks.

The web site has been updated for CEv2 and for a set of both CEv1 & CEv2.

Thanks for the interest.

Doug,

I visited your page to purchase Volume Civil Engineering Vol. II but could not find the link to it. Do you have a new address or is it still http://douglasvanveelen.home.mindspring.com/index.htm

Thanks

Hi Bruce,

The http://douglasvanveelen.home.mindspring.com/index.htm is my pesonnal web site that I need to make a new link on to get to my store web site.

Like a dummy, I misspelled the new web site and did not catch it. It is:

Doug's Railroad Shop

Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks Doug,

One more thing. On the store page, the link to CEv2 takes you to the CEV1 page when clicked on. There is no way to add the book to the shopping cart unless you buy both books at once.

I'm glad you chose bridges for this volume. As soon as the person who bought my truck comes by to pick it up, I'll have the shop room needed to build the two bridges for my railroad. Perfect timing.

Thanks again,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I had trouble getting the correct version of index.htm to upload. Funny think was that the FTP uploader reported no errors.

Oh well. It has been corrected now.

Sorry about that.

I have been given an oldish Mig Welder that works great but I want to find some accessories for it. It came with an .030 tip but I want to get an .035 for it but can't find anything for a BeccaMig 100 anywhere on the net. I can get the gas container and the regulator for this unit but would love to have replacement tips etc.

Can anyone supply a maker or this product by another name?

Sorry about the multiple postings.

You could just drill out the tip but if you were to go down to a dealer that has Miller welders and supplies they may have a tip that would fit. I would just drill it out to the size that you need and start welding. Most sheet metal welding can be done with the thinner wire even some heaver but just have to crank up the heat and wire speed. Most people that use a MIG don't either use enough heat or too much wire and do what is called rolling it on where the edge of the weld is rolled over rather than spread out at the edge into the base metal. This creates a cold weld that is very weak.

PS have my cert in welding too.

Ahoy Dennis! Inquiring minds want to know the etymology of "posher" as in "much posher area" eh!

We know 'posh' was "Port Out Starboard Home" when sailing from Blighty to Indiaah but the 'er' bit has us confused way over here in Beautiful South Etobicoke On.CA.

Cheers,

One of my favorite Brit comedies featured a husband and wife team of self sufficient wannabes. Their social climbing next door neighbor always was distressed that the much 'posher' area of town was being ruined by the urban farmers.

Actually all is aimed at my two ex-pat buddies who live directly south of me here in port Alberni.

I must admit to having an ulterior reason for joining this group. At the Ilford & West Essex MRC we have a superb facility for 7 1/4 inch steam at our club premises. We would like some new members to join us. We have a superbly fitted engineering workshop. The track runs alongside the main railway at Chadwell Heath station. Our club house has up to six other scale layouts in use, scales modelled 2mm to 16mm. Library, Kitchen and toilets. We have use of the facilities seven days a week. The public are invited to our first Sunday each month April-September Steam Day. Next being June 7th. Full details can be seen at our website. If anyone is interested to come and meet us, please contact Charlie Nelson, Secretary, 01708 450424 or myself 07730 420283. Membership is of the club not a particular setion. All this for £1 per week. (£75 2010)

I am also seeking to contact ex members of the Ilford club with a view to a special celebration event in October 2010 at our 80th anniversary anuual exhibition. The club being formed in 1930 is the 3rd oldest model railway club. If you can help me trace ex-members please contact me.

Actually,

Almost as she has acquired a large 26 acre piece of property due north of use up in the Beaufort District and raises horse there. Kinda surrounds Denise and I but at a safe distance. :o)

Also all of us are into greenhouses and large gardens. Hopefully you will get to visit here on your next left coast journey.
