Subject: Real Trains 1.5 scale rail
Does anyone have or has anyone used the Real Trains 1 1/2 scale rail? It is a little smaller than west coast rail, but less expensive. Right now less expensive is a good thing for me. I am looking at a small railroad in appx 3 inch scale. Do you think this rail work for me??? Thanks for your help.

Less expensive is mutually exclusive to 3" scale, I've found that doubling the scale easily quadruples the price. If you're building the big stuff you do not want to skimp on the track. The standard rail height is 1" and that will support some serious locomotive with closely spaced ties, but if you're looking for the NG look with really heavy equipment you'll want some heavier rail or steel with more widely spaced ties. If you're attempting this hobby on a budget may I recommend 1"x3/8" hot rolled strap, I prefer to weld it to 1/8" strap and screw that to ties but some people have had good luck with the groovy system.

I last used 1/2" x 1-1/4" flat bar held in plastic chairs made by PNP railways in the UK screwed to 2x4 ties. Although they only list metric bar sizes, PNP do have tooling for imperial bar. This track looks good for NG and is really fast to lay, ties only every foot or more will do it.

You may be thinking 3" scale, but at what gauge?? The Real Trains rail will work fine for 7 1/2" gauge, but if you increase the gauge, you might think going to mine rail, (steel)..

This will be 7.5 gauge. At one time I had thought of going bigger, but 7.5 will be perfect.

One of the best steam videos I've seen yet! Watch as two 2-8-4's Berkshires doublehead across Michigan....brings back many memories of when I was a boy in the early 1950s and such sights were common place. I had forgotten, too, just how LOUD big railroad steam engines were!!! You will enjoy this: Superb HD video, it's very well done & worth watching!

Subject: (Forwarded) [Livesteamers] Sweet Creek electrical system? CROSS POSTED
CROSS POSTED
Can anyone help with a cab photo of an RMI Sweet Creek showing the location of the two little electrical boxes they include in the kit? One is obviously for a light, the others purpose is obscure.
Any other information on the electrical system would be appreciated too, we got a nice bag of parts in the kit and no schematic or directions. Thanks in advance for any help.
